Rishi Sunak has spoken to broadcasters while on a visit in Essex this morning, with net zero being the key topic of conversation. The PM added that the changes he made yesterday "are particularly important for our rural and farming communities who were facing huge costs and are the backbone of our local economies." "When you put all of that together, run the numbers as we have, we're confident we're on track to deliver net zero and we can do it now in a more proportionate and pragmatic way." He said the UK has "over-delivered" on carbon targets to debate, and said the the cost of green energy, as well as the pace of development of new technologies, mean that the UK is on the right path to net zero. He said the debate over climate change "gets polarised between extremes" and said: "There are people who just want to deny climate change is happening – they're wrong – and on the other side there are people who approach this with more ideological zeal where they just don't care about the impact on families." We've been through the numbers, we're confident that we are on track to deliver all our targets."

Speaking to broadcasters on a visit to an agricultural college in Essex, the PM said: "Lots of people have lots of different views on this. Rishi Sunak has rejected the "polarised extremes" of the climate debate and expressed confidence the UK is on track to hit net zero targets.
